THE PLAY STATION 3


PlayStation 3 (officially named PlayStation 3.4 commonly abbreviated PS3) is the third video game console manufactured by Sony Computer Entertainment and the successor to the PlayStation 2 as part of the PlayStation brand. The PlayStation 3 is currently competing against Microsoft's Xbox 360 and Nintendo's Wii as part of the seventh generation consoles.
An important feature that distinguishes the PlayStation 3 from its predecessors is its unified service for online games, the PlayStation Network, which contrasts with Sony's former policy of relying on game developers for online play. Other important features of the console is its robust multimedia capabilities, connectivity with the PlayStation Portable and its principal, optical disc format HD, Blu-ray Disc, as its primary storage medium. The PS3 also supports the Blu-ray Profile 2.0, because it can interact online with extra content for movies and games.
The PlayStation 3 was launched on November 11th, 2006 in Japan, 12 on 17 November 2006 in North America, 13 and March 23, 2007 in Europe and Australia.14 15 Two variants were available at launch: a basic model with 20 GB hard drive SATA 2.5 "and a professional model with 60 GB HDD and several additional features like double the number of USB ports and backward compatibility with games from its predecessor PlayStation 2. The 20 GB model was not marketed in Europe and Australia. Since then, all models have made several revisions to its hardware to reduce its production cost and selling price.

In the North American launch of the console available in 14 titles and end of year three games were released. After the first week of sales, it is confirmed that Resistance: Fall of Man from Insomniac Games is the best selling game in the North American premiere. The game was praised by many gaming websites, including Gamespot and IGN, both awarded to the game as the best title for the Playstation 3 by the year 2006. Some titles did not appear in the launch and were delayed until early 2007, including The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, FEAR and Sonic the Hedgehog. During the Japanese launch, Ridge Racer 7 was the best selling game, while Mobile Suit Gundam: Crossfire is also sold well, both of which were offered by Namco Bandai.
